Barcelona lives in September 11 full of cultural and protest events, in a Day marked by the countdown of the referendum on October 1. The most massive act of the day is undoubtedly the mobilization that the National Assembly of Catalonia (ANC), which at the moment fills the Passeig de Gràcia and Carrer Aragó form a gigantic sum symbol (“+”) .

We’re here again! How fast the time goes by, we are going through the third publication (and it’s not the last!)

And for lovers of hiking and bicycles, we will show you the routes that can be done in the same area. So get your shoes tight, let’s start!

History and culture of the South of the Solsonès

Good morning!

Let’s touch a little history and culture of the Solsonès. We take the car and we will head to the Miracle, towards Lleida about 15 minutes from Solsona.

  • Miracle Sanctuary: The Miracle Sanctuary is a religious center dedicated to the Virgen del Miracle, located in the western part of the Riner municipality, in Solsonès. The complex consists of a church, a chapel, a monastery dedicated to Benedictine Montserrat, several places of reception: cells, Spirituality House and tourist services. It is worth mentioning the two altarpieces it contains: one of the 16th century Renaissance style attributed to Pere Nunyes; and the magnificent baroque altarpiece of the Miracle, from the 18th century and the work of the sculptor Carles Morató and the painter Antoni Bordons.
    • Schedule for guided tours: Every Saturday, Sunday and public holidays you can discover the best kept secrets of the Miracle Sanctuary, such as its baroque altar and sacristy, the cloister of the monastery and the Baath.
    • Price: € 2 per person

Apart from visiting the Sanctuary, we can stroll through the gardens and surroundings, with beautiful landscapes! Do not forget to take a lot of pictures!

After visiting the Sanctuary, take a guided tour, take as much photographs as the camera’s memory allow and rest for a little while in the bar at the sanctuary, we will head to Su, just 7 minutes from the Miracle.

  • Su: it is a town located at the headwaters of the Matamargó stream. It has a nucleus of clustered settlement. Formerly it formed an independent commune until in the middle of the nineteenth century it was integrated into the Riner term. In Su, we can visit the church of Santa Maria, the recotra of Su, the chapel of Miralles and the Collet del Moro.

Since we are sure to have a bit of hunger, we will take this opportunity to eat here in Su, which, like many villages in the region, focuses on homemade cooking, the one from the granny. We recommend the “Forn de Su” in a unique environment, where you will be treated as if you were at your home!

Having eaten and paused the food (if they are dishes like the ones that made by the granny, maybe will will peal until tomorrow …) and with the coolness of the early afternoon, we will take the car again and we will go to Ardèvol, about 10 Minutes of Su, enjoying the landscape as we arrive.

  • Ardèvol: Ardèvol is a village in the municipality of Pinós, in Solsonès, at the foot of the Sierra de Pinós and very close to the geographical center of Catalonia. Formerly it had a castle whose only rectangular watchtower is left. The population, of about 111 inhabitants, lives divided between the nucleus and the dispersed country houses. Only 5 minutes away from Ardebolo, we can visit Dolmen de la Pera, a funerary monument built at the end of the final Neolithic period and used up to the middle bronze that you can not miss!

Do not fall asleep, because now, we will go to one of the most wonderful and essential parts of the route if you come to Solsonès (apart from trying the trumfos, if you do not try the Solsonès trumfos, you will not have been here!), We will travel to Pinós, 10 minutes from where we were now and where we can say that we are at the Geographic Center of Catalonia !.

  • Pinós: Pinós is a municipality in the Solsonès region that is named after one of the five villages that make it up. It is located in the geographical center of Catalonia. It is also part of Alta Segarra.
  • Geographic center of Catalonia: About 200 meters to the west of the sanctuary, at 930.60 meters above sea level, there is a rose of winds on a large block of stone. In addition to indicating the main winds, he drew in the empty spaces between the tips some of the main symbols of Catalan culture.

We will start to get tired, so we will be finalizing our itinerary.

To finish, we will return north to Matamargó about 20 minutes from Pinós.

  • Matamargó: Matamargó is one of the five entities of the town of Pinós in the Solsonès region. There is no urban nucleus. The settlement is dispersed in the farms that make up the entity. In Matamargó, we will be able to visit “Les Casas de Matamatgó”, a farmhouse from the XVI century converted this year into a cultural space, where you can see, through a tour, how the family life of a self-sufficient house in the nineteenth century . The farm was a reference to the region for its ability to manage and produce in itself all the necessary products to survive in a farmhouse away from the main centers, which were those that had the services. To be able to see represented each one of the peculiarities of self-sufficiency, the original spaces have been adapted and restored as exhibition halls, delimiting the tasks that were carried out in each one.

And with that, we will finish our route, which at this time must have been dark …

You can return to Solsona along the road, direction Cardona, taking the C-55, which will take you to Solsona in an open and close eye!

It has been a tiring day, full of visits, culture, history and wonderful landscapes, we deserve a good dinner and a good bed in which to rest, because tomorrow we will rent a bicycle (or just on foot) and enjoy the landscapes that today We could not do with the car.

The geographical center of Catalonia is located very close to the Sanctuary of Pinós, to the south of the Solsonès region.

The town of Pinós receives the name of one of the five centers that comprise Ardèvol, Vallmanya, Sant Just de Ardèvol, Pinós and Matamargó.

The central part of the term constitutes a backbone between 700 and 800 meters above the river basins of the Llobregat and Segre basins. The rest of the territory is sprinkled by a small stream of small mountain ranges and thick, the most significant of which is the Pinós mountain range (930.6 m).

You will see a landscape marked by the voracity of the 1998 fires as well as subsequent regeneration.

Pinós Sanctuary

Located at 904 meters above sea level, the sanctuary has its origins in the construction of a chapel built by the Knights Templar in 1312, which soon passed into the hands of hospitalers. Popular devotion took a great deal of importance as of the year 1507, when Bernat Cases, de Matamargó, declared that, when arriving at the chapel of way towards Biosca, the Virgin had appeared to him. The original building has been the object of several works of extension and remodeling, among which are those dated by the cover in 1642.
